The Dalton Board of Education announced Dr. Tim Scott as the new superintendent of Dalton Public Schools.

"Dr. Scott's vast experience, leadership ability and record of improving student achievement will add value to our district and advance our vision of preparing students to become contributing citizens of the world," said Dalton Board of Education officials. "In our selection of Dr. Scott, we are seeking to strengthen the district's long-term continuity of leadership and direction, according to board priorities and the objectives of our new strategic plan. Dr. Scott's track record and commitment to excellence indicate that he can translate the goals of this plan into an effective strategy coupled with strong execution.

"We believe that by adding Dr. Scott to our governance team, we can maximize our district's many strengths and accelerate what we are doing well, while simultaneously addressing areas where improvement and change are needed."

Dr. Scott will officially begin his duties on Monday.

Board officials said it is also excited and grateful that Don Amonett, who has served as interim superintendent since June 2017, will continue to be part of the district's leadership as deputy superintendent.

"We see a unique opportunity for Don's unparalleled knowledge of Dalton Public Schools and unwavering commitment to the 'Dalton Difference' to complement Dr. Scott's leadership and assist him in moving our district forward," said officials. "The strengths of both of these life-long educators will make the overall leadership of our district stronger and help us provide every student in our district with the best education possible."
