Dalton State Lady Roadrunners Use Strong Final Round To Win BU Spring Break Classic

Dalton State used a strong final round (+8, 292) team score to run away down the stretch and win the BU Spring Break Classic at Brackenridge Park Course in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday. The Roadrunners finished at (+26, 594) overall, 12 strokes ahead of #5 Texas Wesleyan, (+38, 606).

Cardinal Stritch (Wisc.), (+57, 625), finished in third, followed by University of St. Thomas, (+68, 636), in fourth. Indiana Tech, (+70, 638), rounded out the Top-5.

First Round
The Lady Roadrunners would finish the first round one stroke back of leader Texas Wesleyan after a (+18, 302).

Haejin Choe would lead the way for the Lady Birds with a 2-over-par round of 73. She would be followed by All-Americans Caroline Griffin and Tia Teiniketo with rounds of (75) and (76). Fellow All-Americans Isabel Rijos and Heather Nail would card rounds of (78) and (83) for the Lady Roadrunners.

Hannah Gasaway fired a 3-over, 74 playing as an individual to finish the round in sixth. All-American Katie Dalton got in on the action after sitting out the fall recovering from off-season wrist surgery to card (+2, 73) and tie for third.

Second Round
Teninketo would fire the round of the tournament on Saturday, a 1-under-par, 70 to vault up the leaderboard 10 spots and grab individual medalist honors. Griffin would also shoot up the scorecard after a round of (+2, 73) to finish tied for second.

Choe and Dalton had equal rounds of (76) to finish tied for fifth with Rian Moores of Murray State CC. Isabel Rijos would post a round of (75) to finish right outside the Top-10 in 11th. Nail and Gasaway would each reverse their rounds fromFriday and finish tied for 19th with Loren Kreider of Indiana Tech.

"I am really proud of the women," said DS Coach Jim McGrew. "You find out a lot about a team when they face adversity. This is two weeks in a row against Top-5 competition that we came from behind to win the tournament. We came here to challenge ourselves in conditions that we are not used to and they answered the challenge like the champions they are."

The #2-ranked Lady Roadrunners will be back on the course next week, March 18-20 in the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate hosted by Tennessee Tech University at Sevierville Golf Club in Sevierville, Tenn.

Lady Roadrunners Golf Slip To Sixth In Sevierville
