TBI Case Yields Aggravated Assault Charge For Jerrod Jones, 24, In Saturday Jail Fight

Special agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have obtained an assault charge for an inmate of the McMinn County Jail, Jerrod Jones, 24, in connection to a weekend altercation between two inmates in a holding cell.

At the request of 10th District Attorney General Stephen Crump, TBI agents began investigating the incident that occurred Saturday evening in the booking area at the McMinn County Jail in Athens.

During the course of the investigation, agents developed information that Jones assaulted the other inmate, Tim Cook, 48, who remains hospitalized.

Agents charged Jones with one count of aggravated assault. At the time of this release, he remained in the custody of the McMinn County Jail.
