Dalton State Roadrunners Slide By Brewton-Parker

  • Friday, February 23, 2018
Dalton State got a huge game from All-American Carnilious Simmons and used a late run to slide past Brewton-Parker, 90-78, in Mount Vernon, Ga. on Thursday night.

The Roadrunners got off to a good start, jumping out to a quick eight point lead, 17-9, with 14:54 left in the half. The Barons would fight back, in large part due to the play of Michael Volley, and take a two point lead at 21-19.

The rest of the half would be a battle for momentum with neither team giving an inch.
A field goal by Joseph Williams would send the teams into the break with the Barons leading by one, 39-38.

The second period of play would be much of the same, with both teams battling to take control of the game. Dalton State would be the one to take control going on a 19-5 run beginning at the 8:56 mark of the half to pull out an 11 point lead, 81-70. The Roadrunners would cruise down the stretch to a 90-78 victory.

#15 Dalton State improves to (22-6 overall, 14-3 SSAC) with the win, while Brewton-Parker falls to (5-23 overall, 4-13 SSAC) with the loss. Carnilious Simmons led the way for the Roadrunners, recording his 12th double-double of the season with 29 points and 16 rebounds. Senior Mon'Darius Black also had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Benat Hevia and Aaron Burress each poured in 14 points in the win.

Michael Volley led the Barons with 26 points, going 10-15 from the field, while Devon White added 19 points and eight rebounds.

Two Roadrunners reached important milestones on the evening, with Carnilious Simmons breaking the school-record for most rebounds in a career and Reed Dungan surpassing the 1,000 point mark becoming the only player in school history to do so.

The #15-ranked Roadrunners will finish out the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 24, when they travel to play the Knights of Middle Georgia. Tip-Off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
