Alexander Gives Statement On Administration's Proposed Rule To Expand Access To Short-term Insurance Plans

  • Tuesday, February 20, 2018

The chairman of the Senate health committee, Senator Lamar Alexander on Tuesday released the following statement on the administration issuing a proposed rule to expand the availability of short-term, limited-duration health insurance:

“Millions of Americans who are between jobs and who pay for their own insurance will welcome this extended option for lower-cost, short-term policies.

States will have the responsibility for making sure these policies benefit consumers.”

The rule, if finalized, would allow consumers to buy plans providing coverage for any period of less than 12 months, rather than the current federal maximum period of less than three months.
