Covenant Athletes Earn Players Of The Week

Covenant men's tennis senior Matthew Harvie was named the USA South Player of the Week, for the period ending Feb. 18, announced the conference on Monday.

The honor is the fourth of the career for Harvie and he becomes the first Covenant men's tennis player this season to earn a weekly award from the conference.

A senior from Grayson, Ga., Harvie went 2-0 in doubles and singles play to help Covenant to a 2-0 record on the week. The senior defeated Belhaven's Mauricio Gonzalez 6-4, 6-2 and then Hanover's Landon Carrico 6-0, 6-2 on Saturday. In doubles play, Harvie teamed with Chris Cox to collect an 8-3 win over Belhaven duo of Mauricio Gonzalez and Joan Soler before besting Hanover's Jonathan Helmers and Dakota Smith 8-2.

Harvie's wins over the weekend gave him 39 on the singles side and 38 for his doubles career in dual matches. Both marks are closing on program records in dual matches.

Covenant (3-1) opens USA South play this weekend on the road against LaGrange on Friday and Huntingdon on Saturday.

- For a third time this season Covenant men's basketball freshman forward Will Crumly has been named the USA South Rookie of the Week, announced the conference on Monday.

Crumly wins the weekly honor for a third time this season as he accomplished the feat on Dec. 4 and Jan. 8.

A freshman from Marietta, Ga., Crumly averaged 15.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game as the Scots posted a 1-1 record last week versus USA South members. In an 84-58 win over Brevard on Tuesday, Crumly posted 18 points, six rebounds, one assist and one block. In a 76-69 loss to Piedmont on Saturday, Crumly totaled 12 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

On the year, Crumly is averaging 9.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per game and shooting 51.8 percent from the field. Crumly has 10 games of double-digit points and the year.

Covenant (16-9) is the No. 3 seed in the USA South Tournament and open at Piedmont on Tuesday in a quarterfinal round matchup.

Covenant women's tennis senior Aly Hall was tabbed as the USA South Women's Tennis Player of the Week, for the period ending Feb. 18, announced the league on Monday.

The honor is the third of Hall's career and she become the first Covenant women's tennis player to earn a weekly conference accolade this year. 

A senior from Orlando, Fla., Hall earned a 2-0 record at top singles spot and a 2-0 mark at the second doubles position last week for Covenant. In singles play, Hall defeated Belhaven's Jandayia Lubin 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6) in Friday's 7-2 victory. On Saturday, Hall defeated Hanover's Meghan Farrell 6-3, 6-0 in a 5-4 loss to the visiting Panthers. In doubles, Hall and teammate Jennie Spielman combined for an 8-3 win over Belhaven's Rutchelyn Elizar and Macey Lea on Friday before taking down Hanover's duo of Cami Jones and Haley Parker 8-2 on Saturday.

For the year, Hall is 3-1 in singles play, all at the No. 1 position, and also 3-1 at No. 2 doubles with Spielman.

Covenant (2-2) is off until March 1 when it travels to face Oglethorpe.
