The 59th annual Kiwanis Pancake Day serving piping hot pancakes and sausage under a big tent at Dalton Green, the historic park located adjacent to the Whitfield County Courthouse, will be held on Nov. 3.

The breakfast was first held in 1960. “It was designed to provide a fun way for members of our community to work together to raise money for local kids,” Kiwanis Club of Dalton Vice President Kathy Schleier said.

The local Kiwanis Club had been chartered in 1953. Kiwanian Jack Maeger said members had tried several fundraisers. The group saw the event as an annual celebration. For it to work, members believed the breakfast needed to have a tent and be located in what was then called City Park.

Mr. Maeger said flags borrowed from car dealerships added to the atmosphere. Two grocers were members of Kiwanis. They helped to secure product donations from vendors including locally owned Paramount Dairies. Pancake Day continues to give the civic club an opportunity to literally serve the community.

“Our club has always been about helping kids,” said Ms. Schleier. “Cherokee Estate, Key Clubs and Circle K, scouting, Boys and Girls Clubs, the Salvation Army, and many others benefit from our work in the community both as Kiwanians and as individuals.”

The tradition continues. Members of the Kiwanis Club of Dalton are now selling tickets for this year’s breakfast. Members will serve from 6 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Nov. 3. Anyone eating under the Big Tent will have all of the pancakes and sausage they can eat along with coffee, milk, and/or orange juice. Tickets purchased in advance are $7 each.  The cost on the morning of the breakfast will be $8 each. “To go” plates will also be available.

Advance tickets are also available at a number of area businesses. They include North Georgia Toyota, Alpha Omega Insurance, Todd Love Insurance, Dr. John Schleier’s office, White Pediatrics, Dart Drugs, Tire Discounters,  Big B Cleaners, Jack’s Pawn Shop, The Women’s Enrichment Center, Love Espanadas, the Conasauga Circuit District Attorney’s office, the Salvation Army, First Bank of Dalton, Bank of the Ozarks, and Atlantic Capital.
