The Halftime Show Catastrophe - And Response (2)

Tuesday, January 9, 2018

Sorry Bear. They's a new GOAT in town. His name is Nick and a lot of the folks he's stomped on like to call him Satan but that's just plain ole jealousy and it's okay. I'd hate his guts too if it weren't for Gene Stallings. However, the man has actually lost some games and after the last Iron Bowl, people like that cook show moron on ESPN were saying things like "The Saban era is over." and "Alabama doesn't deserve ...." whatever. Long and short, Tide fans are lucky and they better do whatever it takes to hang on to Nick Saban.

So as I fretted over the lack of any sort of passing game from the Tide last night, I loudly griped that it was time for Tua and I'll be danged- Saban listened to me. Then I got askeert. "What if he chokes?" He didn't and it was a brilliant move on the biggest of big stages. That overtime pass was so beautifully insane. And you want a role model for your kids? How about the hugely gracious Jalen Hurts? That young man is character from head to toe. Period. Really, what a great shiny spot for all humanity to see.

But I was so wound up with the game that, other than I thought half time was supposed to be 15 minutes instead of 45, the stupid rap show flew right over my head. I hate rap. I don't understand what they're saying and, I'm sorry, it's not music. So I tuned it out and fixed another bowl of of some pretty good Natty Champ chili that my boy cooked up. Then, yee haa, Bama won!

Thank God I was clueless to the halftime catastrophe because it would have ruined the entire night. However, this morning I woke up to an email that contained the lyrics to the "song" and I am completely dumbfounded. This is absolutely ridiculous. Unbelievable. Here we are in a long overdue time of reckoning for groping lechers and rapists who hold power and CBS puts this gangsta dude on a stage and everybody is jumping up and down like it's a Beatles concert. Google it and tell me you wouldn't want to ax murder any thug who said that to your wife, daughter, sister, mother or any female you know.

This shouldn't stand. The CEO of CBS's head needs to roll.

Savage,

First of all, I totally agree with what you said about halftime "rap" being a total waste of time. I have not checked on words rapped last night, but I'm sure they are not printable.

My wife said, "why do they continually grab their crotch.  Are they checking to see if their 'manhood' is still there?"

Having said that I agree, that must have been some "stout" Natty Champ chili for you to get mixed up on the network broadcasting game. I was watching on ESPN network, not CBS.  Otherwise, I'm with you 100 percent.

Dear Mr. Emmert,

I apologize for bothering you with this communication. I know your time is valuable to you and your organization so I will attempt to be brief.

The following comments are my thoughts and reaction in regard to the so called “Halftime show” broadcast on ESPN during the NCAA Championship Football game. So please, buckle up your overpriced leather appointed office chair, this will not be pretty.

One of my first observations was why, on heavenly earth would anyone think that the “performer” (I don’t even remember his name) on that show would be something the “average” college football fan would want to see or hear? Let’s set aside the vulgar lyrics and obscene gestures. Just the quality of the “noise” is what was annoying. As young people on the old American Bandstand would say after hearing a really bad song “It has no melody and it’s not easy to dance to”.

Now back to the lyrics. I couldn’t understand a word this “dude” was saying, singing, screaming or whatever you call what he does. Fortunately, a columnist I read looked up the lyrics. The words being spewed were vulgar, vile and demeaning to women. In a time when all of the media world keeps pounding us “average Joes” with the mantra of tolerance, we are shown obscenity and intolerant rants from dweebs that probably couldn’t complete a sentence if his mother life depended on it. Needless to say I didn’t watch much more than three or four minutes of that trash before I went diving for my remote.

You and the NCAA selection committee owe the viewing college football fans a huge apology for allowing ESPN to broadcast that filth. I am sure that airing was offensive to many especially women. Your silence on this matter speaks volumes as to where the NCAA must be headed.

Thank you for the few minutes it took to read this correspondence. I know you will never redeem that time. Just as I will never be able to reclaim the time I spent watching that horrible excuse for halftime entertainment.
