Dr. Brooke Gorman
Dr. Brooke Gorman is the Tennessee Aquarium’s new director of Science Education.
Dr.Gorman is joining the Aquarium and the Chattanooga community after 10 years as a science educator and Director for Instructional Materials Development at Biological Sciences Curriculum Study (BSCS), a non-profit educational center that develops curricular materials, provides educational support and conducts research and evaluation in the fields of science and technology. She was responsible for writing science curriculum materials for grades K-12 and leading professional development workshops for science teachers.
In addition, she has served as the lead for a number of informal education projects, such as Family Science Night at BSCS and STEM events for families.
After receiving her bachelor degree in biology, Dr. Gorman earned her Ph.D. in biology from the Georgia Institute of Technology and completed a postdoc in science teaching and research at Emory University. Her time as a research scientist fueled her passion for helping students learn by engaging in the practice of science itself.
“We’re excited about Brooke’s leadership and enthusiasm for developing exceptional environmental education programs that focus on sparking curiosity,” said Dr. Anna George, the Aquarium’s vice president of Conservation Science and Education. “We’ve been a vital educational resource in the region for more than 25 years, but realize that there’s even more we can do. In the future, we’ll need to develop new programs that best serve our students and their teachers, so that we can help foster an appreciation of science and nature in students of all ages.”
