More than 400 recreation league, middle school, high school and all-star cheerleaders are scheduled to compete and perform at the 5th Annual Bobcat Cheer Extravaganza, presented by Georgia Northwestern, on Monday, Sept. 25.
This year's event will be held at Chattooga High School in Summerville, which has produced several current and former Cheer Cats.
"We're super excited," Cheer Cats head coach Karen Stoker said. "It's such a great opportunity for these kids, especially the younger ones, to get out on the mats and be the center of attention. Some of these kids will be cheering for the first time in front of a crowd, which is good, because it won't be such a shock to them when they get into middle school and high school."
Teams and individuals will compete, while some squads will perform showcases (non-scoring exhibitions) for the crowd.
Ms. Stoker said a new division, Division III, is being added for grade school cheerleaders who aren't a part of any recreation teams, but cheer in other areas.
The event will begin at 5 p.m. with individual cheer competition, followed by awards. The teams will compete and perform starting at 6. The Georgia Northwestern Cheer Cats, who have already qualified for the 2018 NCA Nationals, will perform an exhibition at 8:50 p.m. just before team awards are presented.
Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children. Children younger than school age will be admitted for free.
