Dalton State Lady Roadrunners Finish Season Opening Tournament In 4th

  • Tuesday, September 19, 2017
4th-ranked Dalton State solidified a 4th place finish in the season opening SCAD-Atlanta Fall Invitational, after carding a (+15, 299) final round at The Oaks Course in Covington, Ga. on Tuesday. The Lady Birds would finish six strokes behind at (+32).

(RV) Brenau (Ga.) would win the tournament posting a final round (+13, 297) for an overall score of (+26), one stroke clear of #10 SCAD-Atlanta (+27) and three strokes ahead of #14 Northwestern Ohio (+29).

Sophomore Haejin Choe led all Dalton State golfers on the day, firing a (-1, 70) to finish tied for 6th with fellow Lady Roadrunner Caroline Griffin.
Hannah Gasaway (+1, 72), continued her strong play as an individual to finish in 2nd place overall, two strokes behind individual medalist Sara Jane Bowers of Brenau (Ga.).

All-American's Caroline Griffin (+4, 75), Heather Nail (+5, 76), and Tia Teiniketo (+7, 78), finished 6th, 12th, and 22nd respectively. Isabel Rijos (+8, 79) had another good tournament, tying Nail for 22nd.

"We are a little disappointed with how we played and where we finished," said coach McGrew. "The goal is to win and we did not do that. We had too many big numbers and too many lost strokes on the greens. That being said, it is early in the season and gives us a starting point." He continued saying, "a great round by Haejin and a great tournament by Hannah shows the depth of this team." He concluded, "we have a few days to get some things corrected and then we go to Mississippi for another big tournament."

The #4 Lady Roadrunners will be back in action on September 25 & 26, when they travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. and Canebrake Country Club for the Carey Collegiate Classic hosted by William Carey.
