Judy Kay Peer, 69, was killed on Friday night when a train struck her car in Hixson on Friday night.
Ms. Peer, a Hixson resident, was driving a 2015 Hyundai Sonata.
Police said she was traveling west on Hamill Road and had stopped at the railroad crossing.
The gates were extended with flashing lights and a sounding bell.
A train that was traveling northbound on the closest track to her car finished crossing Hamill Road. Ms. Peer did not wait on the gates to raise and proceeded around the gate prematurely.
Another train on the parallel track that was moving southbound struck the vehicle in-between the two lowered gates.
Ms. Peer, who was the only occupant of the car, was declared deceased at the scene.
Officers with the Chattanooga Police Department Traffic Division are processing evidence from the crash.
The incident happened shortly before 6 p.m.
Neighbors said they heard a loud noise.
