Hugh Allan Hodges, 80, a native of Maryville, Tennessee, and a resident of Cleveland for 34 years, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017, at a Chattanooga healthcare facility.

He was retired and had previously served as the Director of the Bradley County Juvenile Division and also worked as a property manager for several years in Cleveland and Chattanooga.

Hugh was an adjunct instructor at Cleveland State Community College and Lee University. He was a certified teacher for more than 40 years, a licensed pilot and a licensed real estate broker. During the mid-1970’s, Hugh produced the Easter seal Society Telethon which was broadcast live nationwide from Hollywood, California. During this time, he traveled extensively throughout the United States as a business consultant, with offices in New York City, Detroit, Chicago, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas.

After retirement several years ago, Hugh began working part-time as a substitute teacher in the Cleveland City Schools. He also served as a School resource Officer for the Cleveland Police Department at Stuart Elementary School under the leadership of Principal Don Goff.

Hugh proudly served in the United States Air Force as a search and rescue pilot. He was promoted to the rank to Captain prior to being Honorably Discharged.

Hugh was a 1969 graduate of Lee University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Science, Education and Theology with a minor in Speech. He also received his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Franklin University in 1995. He was also a Sunday School teacher and member of First Baptist Church in Cleveland.

Hugh is survived by his loving wife, Joyce, by son David Hodges and wife, Dina of Knoxville, daughter Debbie Rieathbaum and husband Donnie, of Cabot, Arkansas, and a step-son, Mike Bradshaw and wife, Babbett of Mesquite, Texas. He had seven grandchildren, Colton Bradshaw and wife, Jessica, Hailey Dalrymple and husband Matt, Landon Bradshaw and wife, Kebby, Richard and Brenna Hodges, and Justin and Jared Rieathbaum, and one great-granddaughter, Savannah Rieathbaum along with numerous nieces and nephews and special cousins, Debbie LeVan and Barbara Daily.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Fike-Randolph & Son Funeral Home with Pastor P.J. Harrison officiating. Interment will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.

His family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
