King Joins Aquarium Staff

  • Wednesday, July 26, 2017

Melanie King, a development professional from Atlanta, has joined the Tennessee Aquarium’s team as senior development officer. Ms. King was in charge of individual leadership giving at the Georgia Tech Alumni Association for the past 10 years. She also was responsible for sponsorships and maintaining corporate relations for fundraising events. Previously Ms. King worked with both National Wildlife Federation and the Georgia Conservancy.

In her new role, Ms. King will be focused on advancing the mission of the Tennessee Aquarium through individual donor relationships. Special emphasis will be placed on major gifts and planned giving for the Aquarium’s Fund for Excellence.

"This support helps ensure Chattanooga’s success too," officials said.  "Each year the annual economic impact of the Aquarium on Chattanooga and Hamilton County is $115 million and supports nearly 1,300 jobs in the area. The Fund for Excellence is used to pay for new exhibits, expand conservation research and restoration programs throughout the Southeast, and deliver science education programs that connect people with nature, empowering them to make informed decisions about water and wildlife."

“I believe Melanie has the perfect combination of experience and passion for our mission,” said Keith Sanford, the Aquarium’s president and CEO. “I’m excited for everyone in the community to get to know her as she builds community awareness and support for the Aquarium’s next 25 years.”
