Gene Turpin
Gene Ally Turpin, 91, of Decatur, Tennessee, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 22, 2017.
He was born on March 27, 1926, in Sylva, NC to the late Homer and Birdie Turpin. Gene served in the US Navy and was a WWII veteran. In his time in the Navy, he was a Golden Glove Boxing Champion. Gene was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
In addition to his mother and father, he is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Kathleen Smith Turpin. He is also preceded in death by one brother Howard Lee Turpin, two sisters, Geneva Nelson and Ruth Grissom, and one grandson Brian Lynn Turpin.
Left to cherish his memory are two daughters Cheryl Cogdill (Larry), Elizabeth James (Stacy); five sons: Randall Turpin, Steven Turpin (Ruby), Roland Turpin (Collette), Leigh Turpin (Debi), Larry Turpin (Patty), one brother, Wade Turpin, 20 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. In addition to these, he leaves behind several extended family members and friends.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 26, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Union Grove Baptist Church in Decatur. A funeral service will be held at the church at 1 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery in Decatur.
