Carl Lloyd Ellis, 83, of Chattanooga, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, surrounded by his family. 

Carl was born July 18, 1934, on the Ellis family farm, located on Battle Creek in South Pittsburg.  Carl was a member of Lookout Valley Baptist Church and loved his Lord and his family.  He graduated from South Pittsburg High School and American College of Life Underwriters at LSU where he obtained his Certified Life Underwriter credential.  Following university training, Carl taught insurance classes at the University of Chattanooga.  He worked for Lincoln National Insurance Company for 40-plus years.  Carl was one of the charter members of the Chattanooga Valley Lions Club.  He also worked with the Chattanooga Kidney Foundation to help provide portable dialysis machines for in-home use.  Carl loved attending South Pittsburg Pirates football games and was a strong supporter of Lookout Valley High School football.  He was a compassionate and giving man who anonymously helped many in need, especially during the Christmas season.  He enjoyed great adventures traveling with family and friends.  Carl’s home was located on a corner and was often a stopping point for conversation and advice.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Ross H. and Edith McNabb Ellis; sister, Peggy Ellis Woody; and brother, John Paul Ellis. 

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Doris Adkins Ellis; daughter, Cara Ellis; sons, Brian (Eve) Ellis, Jeff (Lisa) Ellis, of Chattanooga; son, Michael Ellis, Paris, Kentucky; brother, Doug Ellis; grandchildren: Jennifer (Arthur) Roden, Laura (Jordan) Winchester, Brandon Ellis, Jordan (Dana) Ellis, Austin (Tabitha) Ellis, Grace Ellis, and Kassi (Brannon) Cooper, and 6 great-grandchildren. 

Those wishing to do so may make contributions to Lookout Valley Baptist Church or Lookout Valley High School athletics department and band.

Funeral services will be on Friday, July 28, at 2 p.m., at Lookout Valley Baptist Church, 23 Lilac Ave. Chattanooga, Tn. 37419, with Reverend Troy Walliser and Darrell Smith officiating. Interment will be in Ellis Family Cemetery, 1000 Ellis Cove Road, South Pittsburg.

The family will receive friends from 3-8 p.m. on Thursday, at the funeral home, and Friday, one hour prior to the service at the church.
