Nick Gordon hit a run-scoring single in the second inning, leading the Chattanooga Lookouts to a 5-2 win over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on Sunday.

Having already won the first-half Southern League North Division title, the Lookouts have a record of 19-5 in the second-half with a month and a half remaining.

Chattanooga right-hander Fernando Romero (8-6) picked up the win. Romero held the Jumbo Shrimp to two runs over his five innings of work, striking out six in the process.

Romero threw 82 pitches, 54 for strikes.

It was the third-straight start in which Romero pitched exactly five innings despite not eclipsing even 90 pitches. It would appear he’ll be on a pretty strict innings limit for the rest of the season.

Ryan Eades followed Romero with three shutout innings and Paul Clemens pitched a scoreless ninth for his second save.

The Lookouts were trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the second, but a big two-out rally led to Chattanooga tallying three runs in the inning. Travis Harrison had the big hit of that frame, a two-run double. The single by Gordon capped a three-run inning and gave the Lookouts a 3-2 lead.

Gordon had a nice night at the plate, going 2-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base, but he also made his 19th error of the season.

The Lookouts later tacked on two runs in the eighth when T.J. White scored on a sacrifice and Harrison scored on an error to secure the victory.

Opposing starter Chris Mazza (1-6) took the loss in the Southern League game after giving up three runs and seven hits over five innings.

The Jumbo Shrimp left some scoring opportunities on the table, stranding 12 baserunners in the loss. Austin Dean singled three times for the Jumbo Shrimp.

Max Murphy went 2-for-4; Jon Rodriquez went 2-for-4 raising his average to .313; Harrison was 1-for-3, scored twice and had 2 RBI.

In the ninth inning, Clemens got Cam Maron to fly out with runners on first and second to end the game.

With the win, Chattanooga improved to 6-3 against Jacksonville this season.
