Evelyn Tuggle Davenport
Evelyn Tuggle Davenport, age 71, of Calhoun, Georgia, departed this life, Monday morning June 26, 2017 at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Evelyn was born April 21, 1946 in Calhoun, Ga., a daughter of the late Millard and Gladys Austin Tuggle. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Colene Casey and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Reverend Warren and Anna Mae Davenport.
Evelyn was a 1964 graduate of Valley Point High School. She received her four year degree in criminal justice from Brenau College. She proudly served her country in the U.S. Army. She was a policewoman with the Dalton City Police for 15 years. Evelyn was elected two terms and served the people of Whitfield County as the Whitfield County Probate Judge. She worked at Hayes State Prison for several years and later retired from the Department of Family and Children Services in Floyd and Catoosa Counties. She was a member of Sugar Valley Baptist Church.
Evelyn lived a life of service to others and the true love of her life was her family.
She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Tommy Davenport of the residence; sons and daughter-in-law, Wesley Davenport of Calhoun, Bill and Cindy Davenport of Dalton; grandchildren, Josh and Emily Kinsey, Justin Davenport and Josiah Davenport; great-grandson, Kayden Davenport; sisters and brothers-in-law, Brenda and Jess Roegrer, Helen and Roy Ingle all of Resaca, Ga.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Phil and Deborah Davenport of Rocky Face, Rick and Judy Davenport, Jim and Bunny Davenport all of Dalton, and Annette Davenport of Newnan, Ga.; and special cousins, Ray and Mary Tuggle of Muscle Sholes, Al.; several nieces and nephews and cousins.
Services to celebrate the life of Evelyn Davenport will be held Thursday, June 29, at 11 a.m. at Sugar Valley Baptist Church with Reverend Mitch Phillips and Reverend Delmar Davenport officiating.
She will be laid to rest at Chandler Cemetery with Josh Kinsey, Justin Davenport, Mitch Hasty, Britt Hasty, Jody Davenport and Jeff Fowler serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Sugar Valley Baptist Church from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday and after 10 a.m. Thursday morning until the service hour.
