Glenda Sherrill Hamilton peacefully went to meet her Lord early on June 20, 2017 at the age of 82.

"Gigi" was her cheerful, positive, uplifting self to the end and was surrounded by family and friends during her final hours.

Glenda Jo Sherrill was born on Feb. 25, 1935, in Chattanooga, to Jewell Taylor Sherrill and Joseph Glenn Sherrill. Glenda completed elementary and high school at the Girls Preparatory School (GPS) in Chattanooga and then attended Florida State University where she was a member of the Pi Phi sorority and the Tarpon Club. She graduated in 1957 with a BS in interior design and moved to New York City where she worked in various capacities. After her father's death, Glenda moved to Atlanta in 1959 to be closer to her mother and was employed in advertising for the Coastal States Life Insurance Company.

In December, 1962, Glenda met her husband Robert (Bob) through the auspices of a mutual friend, and the following December 28, they were married. In the late summer of 1964, the couple moved to Seattle, WA, where Glenda worked at the Family Life Insurance Company and where their son Louis was born. In early 1967, they moved to Del Mar, CA, and then several months later to Anchorage, AK, where their son Thomas was born. In the summer of 1969, the family moved to Houston where Glenda remained until her death.

While in Houston, Glenda became very active in her sons' schools and Grace Presbyterian Church, where she held a number of positions including: elder, chairman of Music and Worship, chairman of the Decorating Committee, and moderator of the Women of the Church. After her sons left home for college, Glenda became one of the original volunteers for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) in Houston, and she diligently worked in that position advocating for children for 10 years.

For the past 23 years, Glenda was fortunate to spend her summers in the marvelous community of Lake Toxaway, NC, where she established a circle of wonderful friends. While in NC, Glenda became a painter and developed into an accomplished artist. She was also active in sports and Bible study until being slowed by illness over the past six years. For the past 14 years, Gigi devoted a great deal of her time and energies to her six beloved grandchildren.

Glenda is survived by her devoted husband, Robert, and her sons: Louis and wife, Melissa (Mimi), and their daughters Lucy and Katie, and their son, George; Thomas and wife, Cynthia, and their daughters, Margaret, Gracey, and Eliza. She is also survived by her brother, Rodolph Sherrill and wife Anne of Cashiers, NC, and her brothers-in-law, John Hamilton and wife Martha of Cincinatti, OH, and James Hamilton and wife Lois of Tuscon, AZ. Glenda was very devoted to and survived by her neices and nephews: James Hamilton, Jr. and wife, Jennifer, of Aledo, TX, Juile (Hamilton) and Freddie Santen of Alma, CO; Amy (Hamilton) and John Rogala of Denver, CO; John and Jeannie Hamilton of Cincinatti, OH; Glenn and Jenny Hamilton of Cincinnati, OH; Allison Sherrill of Atlanta, GA; Glenn and Laurie Sherrill of Ponte Vedra, FL; Bobby and Avery Jones of Arden, NC; and Ashe Jones of Elk City, OK.

The family would like to express its sincere gratitude for the tremendous love and support given by Glenda's numerous and loving friends in both Houston and Lake Toxaway and to the devoted doctors, nurses, staff, and care givers who have helped and supported her over these past, trying years. In particular, they would like to recognize Drs. Karen Cottingham, Diane Bodurka, and Koichi Takahashi; New Century Hospice; and the devoted Lisa Jones for her support during Glenda's final days.

In lieu of customary flowers and gifts, the family requests that donations be made to the donor's charity of choice in Glenda's name.

Memorial services for Glenda will be in the sanctuary at Grace Presbyterian Church in Houston on July 1, at 2 p.m. An additional memorial service will be conducted at St. Andrews By-the-Lake Chapel in Lake Toxaway, NC, at a date yet to be determined in August. Glenda's remains will be interred at St. Andrews by the lake.
