Whirlpool Foundation Announces 2017 Sons And Daughters Scholarship Winners From Cleveland

  • Thursday, June 22, 2017
Every year, Whirlpool Foundation presents a series of scholarships and awards to the children of Whirlpool Corporation employees at their Benton Harbor, Mi. headquarters, as well as other locations across the nation - including Cleveland, Tn.

Awards, which are chosen by a panel of judges, comprised of community leaders who represent the business, education, and nonprofit sectors, who volunteer their time and are not Whirlpool employees, recognize the academic and personal achievements, leadership, and community involvement of bright high school seniors in the communities in which Whirlpool Corporation has a presence.
Students in each community have the opportunity to compete for $24,000 Scholarships, $2,500 Honor Awards, and $1,000 Incentive Awards.

“We’re thrilled to continue this tradition of providing recognition and financial support to the young men and women in our communities,” said Jeff Noel, president of the Whirlpool Foundation and vice president of Whirlpool Corporation Corporate Communications. “"Our company’s founders held a strong sense of family and giving back to both our employees and our communities. We continue to cherish that legacy and are honored to bestow these awards.

More than 15 seniors from the Cleveland area applied for the award in 2017 and three winners were chosen. Whirlpool Corporation announces the following winners for the 2017 Whirlpool Foundation Sons and Daughters Scholarship Program (name, award, college attending):

Sierra Shepherd, $24,000 Scholarship, Lee University;
Allen Swetman, $2,500 Honor Award, University of Tennessee Knoxville; and

"Since the first two scholarships were awarded in January of 1952, Whirlpool Foundation has provided more than 1,950 scholarships and honor awards to children of employees totaling more than $16 million dollars. More than 100 Whirlpool Foundation scholarship and award recipients are presently attending colleges and universities across the nation.

"Through its strategic grants, Whirlpool Foundation identifies outstanding programs that are centered on quality family life, cultural diversity and lifelong learning. Since the foundation’s beginning, hundreds of organizations and programs have benefited from more than $200 million in grants," officials said.
