Covenant Men's Soccer Unveils 2017 Schedule

  • Wednesday, June 21, 2017
The 2017 Covenant men's soccer season will get underway on Friday, Sept. 1 as the Scots begin a 20-match schedule with a tilt against Wilmington. The Scots will play nine home matches at Scotland Yard on the year to go along with a full USA South slate.

Covenant and Wilmington kick off the season on Sept.
1
at Maryville. It will be the third time in the last four years the Scots and Quakers have met. The following day, Sept. 2, Covenant will meet Eastern Mennonite in Maryville marking the first time since 1979 that the two programs have met.

The home opener is set for Sept. 6 against regional foe Sewanee at 7:30 p.m. Covenant will then head to Mississippi to take on Belhaven (Sept. 8) and Millsaps (Sept. 9).

USA South play begins during Homecoming weekend. The Scots host North Carolina Wesleyan on Friday, Sept. 15 at 6:30 before playing Methodist on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m.

After a pair of road contests at Averett and Ferrum, the Scots return home at the end of September to face Piedmont and Pfeiffer. Pfeiffer, the 2015 NCAA Division II national champions, will be in its first year of USA South membership. Pfeiffer and Covenant have met just once before, playing an NAIA regional tournament match in 1994, a contest that the Scots won.

In October, Covenant hosts Pensacola Christian on Oct. 7, before playing Maryville (Oct. 13) and Brevard (Oct. 14) at Scotland Yard the following weekend. Brevard is also in its first year of USA South membership as the two programs will reunite after being members of the Appalachian Athletic Conference while in the NAIA. The final regular season match is Oct. 25 with Berea, another new USA South member, making the trip to Lookout Mountain.

Conference matches against Brevard and Pfeiffer will not count towards league standings as the two institutions are in transition to NCAA Division III from Division II.

The USA South Tournament begins on Oct. 28 and runs through Nov. 3-4 at campus sites.
