MURFREESBORO -- McCallie's Hakim McMorris had a pretty good day on Monday when he won four of the first five events for an early lead in the Division II state decathlon here at the Dean Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium, but he was even better on the final day of competition.
He was first in all five events on Tuesday to easily win the title with 6,892 points, soundly defeating runner-up Daniel Tell of Briarcrest by some 688 points.
McMorris posted a time of 15.09 seconds in winning the 110 high hurdles before tossing the shot put 43 feet, 1.5 inches for another first.
Then in the long jump, he won with a best effort of 22 feet, 5.75 inches before clearing 6-2 to win the high jump. He finished the day with time of 4:48.44 to win the 1500.
Walker Valley's Bryce Nunnelly was fourth in the Class AAA competiton as he finished with 6,072 points. Rashad Haynes of Memphis Central was first with 6,477.
Nunnelly's only win came in the 1500 where he posted a time of 4:37.44.
