George Penley
George Young Penley, 59, of Chattanooga, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at 3:18 a.m.
He was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area and was of the Christian faith. George was an ordained minister and was a truck driver for most of his life. He enjoyed Karaoke, wrestling, going to buffets and was an avid tattoo enthusiast. George was larger than life, he never met a stranger and he could never tell the short version of any story. He was a loving and devoted friend, brother, father and grandfather who will be truly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Myrtle Penley.
Survivors include the mother of his children and best friend, Wanda Penley of Rossville; daughters and son-in-law, Stephanie Robertson of Rossville, and Shannon Penley and Jerry Carpenter of Chickamauga; brother, Clay McMurray of Chattanooga; sister and brother-in-law, Louise “Lou” and Anthony Ware of Dayton; five grandchildren, Tyler Penley, Riley Robertson, Isaiah Price, Brooklyn Price and Micah Carpenter; and numerous extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 26, in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel. Burial will follow in the Lakewood South Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends after 11 a.m. on Thursday, and prior to the service on Friday, at the funeral home.
