Naval Aviator During World War II

Vernon L. Renninger died on May 20, 2017, at his home on Signal Mountain. 

He was born in Canal Fulton, Ohio July 4, 1919 and has been a resident of Signal Mountain since 1986 and was a member and communicant of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church.  He was a graduate of Ohio State University and in World War II was a Naval aviator in Air Group 87 aboard the carrier USS Ticonderoga.  As a CPA, he was a member of the American Institute of CPA’s and The Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants.  During his retirement at Alexian Village, he enjoyed golfing (the owner of two holes-in-one) and was a member of the Navy League.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Renninger in 1985 and his second wife, Betty Renninger in 2003.

He is survived by his sons, Thomas Renninger (Beverlee), Bellevue, Wa., and William Renninger (Beth), Greenville, SC.  Also surviving are grandchildren, Robert, John, Rachel, Laura, Katie and Anna and five great grandchildren. Special thanks to long term caregiver, Jean Thompson.

Graveside services with military honors will be held on Saturday, May 27, 12:30 p.m. in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
