James “Jimmy“ Welch, 71, of Decatur, passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2017.
Jimmy was a member of Concord United Methodist Church and member of the American Legion, Amvets and the VFW. He served in the past as a chapter president for the Wild Turkey Federation, member of the Democratic Party, was a former county commissioner and retired after 30 years from Volunteer Electric Coop.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel O. and Lulu Bell Campbell Welch, brother, Samuel O. Welch Jr., sister, Earlene Ratledge.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Pat Welch of Decatur; sons, James R. (Kim) Welch of Lebanon, Stanley (Michele) Welch of Decatur; daughter, Sandra Welch of Alexendria; grandchildren, Emily L. Welch, James Hunter Welch, Colton Kelsey, Shade Narramore, Shelby Ruggiero, Riley Stinnett, Delaney Stinnett, Briar Welch; great-grandchildren, Emma Grace Givens, Tucker Lee Givens, Alexis Coleman, Zeb Jeffries, Ava Kelsey, Alex Ruggiero, with numerous nieces, and nephews and a host of friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, in the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home. The Reverend Will Conner and grandson James Hunter Welch officiating. Internment will follow in the Concord Cemetery with Mike McGrew, Travis Sneed, Bobby Stokes, Justin Givens, Earl Wright, Billy Moon serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 24, from 5-8 p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home.
