City Of Cleveland Receives 2 Bids To Extend Runway At Cleveland Regional Jetport

  • Wednesday, March 29, 2017

The City of Cleveland received two bids on Tuesday to extend the runway at the Cleveland Regional Jetport.

The sealed bids were opened Tuesday afternoon.

GLF Construction Corporation of Miami, Fl. submitted a bid of $2,914,980. Hinkle Construction Services, LLC of Paris, Ky. submitted a bid of 2,004,827.

Five companies, including two local firms, had picked up bid packages, but the remainder did not submit bids.

The city earlier received a state $2.25 million grant for the project from the Tennessee Department of Transportation's Tennessee Aeronautics Commission. The city contributed an additional $250,000 for a total of $2.5 million for the runway extension.

The extension will add 700 feet to the runway, bringing it to 6,200 feet. That added length will accommodate larger aircraft and longer flights, authority members said.

The Cleveland Municipal Airport Authority's consulting firm, PDC Consultants, will evaluate the two bids, said PDC's Rick Hudgins. On April 7 at 9 a.m., the Airport Authority will hear PDC's report and choose a  contractor, said Airport Authority Chairman Lou Patten.
