Covenant Women's Tennis Wins 9-0 Over Piedmont

For a second time in three conference matches, the Covenant women's tennis team produced a shutout as the Lady Scots claimed a 9-0 victory at Piedmont in USA South action on Tuesday afternoon.

Covenant (8-6, 3-0 USA South) remains perfect in league play with the win.
Piedmont drops to 5-8 overall and 2-2 against the USA South.


Doubles play was controlled by the Lady Scots as Aly Hall and Esther Eddy combined for an 8-4 win at the top spot, while Claire Luger and Gracie Smith took an 8-0 victory at No. 2. Annie DeLuca and Jennie Spielman teamed up for an 8-4 victory as Covenant took a 3-0 lead entering singles play.

It was all Covenant in singles play as well. Hall gave the Lady Scots a 4-0 match lead with her 6-1, 6-2 victory over Morgan Buchholz at the No. 1 position. Luger's 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles over Simona Floyd clinched the match victory for Covenant.

DeLuca was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Amanda Blackwell at the second flight. Eddy, the reigning USA South Rookie of the Week, continued her solid play with her seventh straight singles win as she defeated Durden Smith 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4. At No. 5, Smith collected her 48th career singles victory with a 6-3, 6-0 defeat of Karina Rivera. Covenant capped the win with Spielman's 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 6.
