Covenant Golfers 13th At Wynlakes Intercollegiate

Nathan Hawkins finished 30th to lead the Covenant men's golf team to a 13th place finish at the Wynlakes Intercollegiate, hosted by Huntingdon, which ended on Tuesday.

The Scots improved on their day one team score by 20 strokes in the final round with a 309. Covenant ended the two-day tournament with a score of 638 (329-309). The 309 in the final round was the lowest team round score of the season.

Top-ranked Huntingdon took the team title and the Hawks' Addison Lambeth was the medalist as he carded a 10-under, 134 (67-67) for the tournament.

Hawkins set a season-best round with his 75 on Tuesday to finish the tournament in a tie for 30th overall.
The freshman also set a career best for a 36-hole tournament score with his 152 (77-75) in the event. Marshall Kent fired a 76 in the final round to finish in a tie for 40th after posting a 154 (78-76). 

Josh Wall saw the biggest improvement for the Scots as he was 11 shots better in the final round with his career-best round of 77. Alan Craig posted an 81, while Will Mayfield was at 84 on Tuesday. All five Covenant golfers shot better in the final round.

Covenant will now wait and see if it qualifies for the USA South Tournament. The top nine teams in the conference, as determined by GolfStat ranking, qualify for the tournament which will take place on April 13-15 in LaGrange, Ga.
