Albert Cox Richie, of Chattanooga, passed away on March 27, 2017. He was 90.

He was a native of Chattanooga. Albert was a 1945 graduate of Notre Dame High School and attended St. Bernard College in Cullman, AL. He was a graduate of UC — University of Chattanooga. He was active in most sports at a young age until his diagnosis of Alzheimer's in 2014. As a young teen he was the city's tennis singles champion in the mite division and several years later, he was the city's senior champion in mixed doubles. At Notre Dame, he played football and basketball. After college he continued to be active in softball and basketball, but his real love was golf.

He was retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) with nearly 40 years of service. Most of his career with TVA was as a division personnel officer. In 1985 he was appointed as acting assistant director of personnel in Knoxville and in 1986 he was appointed assistant manager of Nuclear Personnel in Chattanooga. Albert had served as chapter president of the now defunct Hickory Valley Civitan Club and more recently as chapter president of the Chattanooga TVA Retirees Association.

He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Marine Corps. His church affiliation was Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

His parents were the late Joseph Earl Richie and Nell Cox Richie. He was preceded in death by two wives: Jessie Beene Richie of McDonald, TN and Virginia Brandon Richie of Chattanooga, Tn.

Survivors include his children: Mike Richie and wife, Elaine, of Ooltewah; Patti Richie Taylor of Cheraw, SC; and Kelly Richie Dempsey and husband, Larry, of Ooltewah, Tn. Five grandchildren: Ashlee Richie Ehorn and husband, Casey, of Mt. Juliet, TN; Tyler Richie and wife, Kari, of Raleigh, NC; Seth Richie of Ooltewah, TN; Olivia Taylor of New York City and Katie Taylor Wise and husband, JJ, of Gastonia, NC. Five great-grandchildren: Harrison and Bennett Ehorn, Foster and Kennedy Richie and Parker Wise; one brother: Joseph Edward Richie and wife, Sue, of Florence, KY along with their children and grandchildren.

The family of Mr. Richie would like to thank the following: the entire staff of Garden Plaza at Greenbriar Cove for their compassion and assistance over the last 2 1/2 years in caring for Al. He loved you all; Dr. John Laramore, Dr. Christopher Poole and their respective staff for their care, concern and willingness to listen and help; Jette Butoy for her devotion and concern in assisting with AI the past 2 1/2 years. We could not have made it this long without you; and last but certainly not least, Lyndia Fryar and Debra Hogan. Your compassionate care giving gave us extra time with our Dad and we could never thank you enough for that. And also to Dick Crawford for your 60 years of love and friendship.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Father J. David Carter officiating and Dick Crawford delivering the eulogy.  Burial will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Chattanooga or the Alzheimer's Association of Chattanooga.
