Western Carolina Trio
Western Carolina Trio

Friday night’s Western Carolina Trio concert may contain some pieces that even the most enthusiastic musician hasn’t yet heard.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Dalton State’s Goodroe Auditorium. It is free and open to the public.

The trio features Dr. Eldred Spell, Dr. Shannon Thompson, and Lillian Buss Pearson performing pieces from Frederic Chopin, Paul Basler, and Arthur Benjamin.

"I'm so happy to have these artists visiting from Western Carolina,” said Dr. Ellie Jenkins, associate professor of music who organizes the concert series at Dalton State. “Their program is varied and rich, and I'm looking forward to hearing some music that's brand new to me."

Dr. Spell is a professor of flute at Western Carolina University and is a trained flute maker. He has done research in the practical acoustics and tuning of a flute and is often a consultant to numerous flute companies. He is a recitalist and clinician appearing throughout North America and England. He has also recorded for several record labels.

Dr. Thompson, an associate professor of music at Western Carolina University, has led the clarinet studio since 1997. She performs with orchestras and is active as a recitalist, in an ensemble and as a soloist.

Ms. Pearson is a pianist who has performed throughout the United States, England, and even China. She performs both as a soloist and with an ensemble. She has also studied the harpsichord and fortepiano.

Dalton State’s concert series is made possible by a grant from the Dalton State Foundation.
