Downtown Chamber Council and Member Businesses Donate $2,000 to CSAS

The Downtown Council of the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce presented a check for $1,000 to the Chattanooga School for Arts and Sciences (CSAS) at their March meeting. During the meeting, Downtown Council member businesses donated an additional $1,000 to complete the funding need of $2,000 for CSAS.

"This donation enabled us to purchase 10 additional digital walkie talkies," said CSAS Lower School Principal Kelly Coffelt. "This not only allows for communication during the school day room to room, to the nurse and office, but also outside. Each classroom can be in full communication since CSAS doesn't have an intercom system. We appreciate our partnership with the Downtown Council."

The Downtown Council has focused on local education this year, with a previous donation to Brown Academy of $1,000 for uniforms.

"As part of our educational focus over the past year, our board has been seeking ways to support schools in our footprint," said Council President Joey Greer. "Through public-private partnerships, we were able to bring to light a need from CSAS. Making people aware of community needs is a great way to demonstrate the power of networking that the Chattanooga Chamber promotes every day. We look forward to helping bridge gaps between education and the downtown business community."

If your business would like to partner with the Downtown Council in their focus on education, reach out to Beth Harrell at bharrell@homesrep.com. The Downtown Council meets the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 a.m. at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center.

The Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce's mission is to champion member businesses and promote regional economic growth. The Chamber's 12 area Councils are the backbone of the Chamber's volunteer presence, supporting businesses in more specific geographic areas within our community.

At monthly meetings, members enjoy networking opportunities and stimulating speakers. Each Council serves the unique needs of its members with its own board, strategic plan, annual budget, programs and initiatives. The Councils provide opportunities to get involved in solving problems, discussing issues and supporting events and civic projects that benefit businesses, schools and other constituencies within the Council's footprint.
