Jewell Smith, 92, of Dayton, Tennessee, died Saturday morning, March 25, 2017 at the Courtyard in Dayton.

She was born May 30, 1924 in Dayton to the late Mynatt and Anna (Burnett) Carney; and was also preceded in death by her husband Claude Smith; and several siblings.

Jewell was a resident of Dayton most of her life where she worked for Kayser-Roth Manufacturing for 35 years. She loved spending time with her family, working in her yard and painting anything she thought needed it. She was a member of the Graysville United Methodist Church.

Jewell is survived by her son Woodrow Sneed of Dayton; daughter Kay (Philip) Alexander of Hixson; grandson Jeff (Allison) Fisher; great-grandchildren Olivia Kay Fisher and Henry Fisher, all of Atlanta; brothers Mynatt Carney, Jr. of Dayton and Bob (Ruby) Carney of Hixson; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services for Jewell will be held Tuesday, March 28 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Minister Steve Brown officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Rhea Memory Gardens.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and sincere appreciation to David Zophi and all the staff at the Courtyard for their loving care and kindness shown to our mother.

The family is being cared for by the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton where they will receive friends Tuesday from 11: a.m. until 2 p.m.
