John Murphy
John Austin Murphy, 93, of Rising Fawn, Georgia, died on Saturday, March 25, 2017 in Trenton, Georiga.
He was a gunner and staff sargeant with the Air Force during World War II in the European Theatre. He flew 30 combat missions in both the B17 and B24 planes. He received four Bronze Medals, four Oak Leaf Medals an EAME Ribbon, and Air Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.
He was a girls and womens softball coach as well as boys baseball coach for 40 years.
He was a member of the Trenton Methodist Church and served as the Sunday School superintendent and was a Sunday School teacher for many years at Byrd’s Chapel Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bonnie Austin Murphy and John W. Murphy; two brothers, Jim and Pat Murphy; and a son, Joe Murphy.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Corene Hannah Murphy; brother, Jack (Mary) Murphy; daughters, Kay (John) Allan, Amy Westley, and Anne (David) Warlick; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, at Deer Head Cove Cemetery with Reverend Tommy Crider presiding. Military honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 106 of Trenton, Ga.
