Frank Rankin “Buddy” Montgomery, 78, of East Ridge, died on Saturday, March 25, 2017, in a local nursing facility.

He was born on Sept. 19, 1938, and was a longtime resident of Chattanooga. Buddy was a 1957 graduate of City High School. He was a member of the Highland Park Baptist Church. He worked for National Life Insurance Co. for several years in Chattanooga before transferring to Los Angeles. He attended Santa Monica College and graduated from the Los Angeles Police Academy, after which time he then worked for the Beverly Hills Police Department for nine years, serving as a police officer. He returned to Chattanooga and retired after 32 years of service with the Hamilton County Clerk.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lorena Montgomery.

Buddy is survived by his longtime friend and caregiver, Virginia Pell and her children, Susan Bedwell and Scott (Paula) Pell, all of Chattanooga.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 28, at Greenwood Cemetery with Reverend Joe Brown officiating.  

The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the Battlefield Church of the Nazarene, 3220 Battlefield Parkway, Fort Oglethorpe, Ga. 30742.
