Alpha Chi To Host Annual Academic Showcase Tuesday

  • Friday, March 24, 2017

The Lee University chapter of Alpha Chi, an upperclassmen honor society, will host its annual Academic Showcase on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Jones Lecture Hall, located in the School of Religion.

“I’m always impressed by the high level of student work at this event,” said Dr. John Wykoff, co-sponsor for Lee’s Alpha Chi chapter. “We have some very good academic and artistic entries this year.”

Each year students from across Lee’s campus submit academic and artistic work to be considered for the showcase. Students then present their work in front of their peers and a panel of faculty judges. The winners will be chosen by a panel of faculty judges.

While the judges deliberate, the audience will be treated to an address from this year’s guest speaker Dr. Joel Kailing, chairperson of Lee’s Department of Communication Arts.

“The interdisciplinary aspect is my favorite part of Academic Showcase,” said Bethany Westcott, president of Lee’s Alpha Chi chapter. “It is truly incredible to see students from disciplines across campus come and share their scholarship and creative pieces with one another.”

Cash prizes will be awarded for first and second place presenters in the academic category and for first place in the artistic category.

Alpha Chi is a coeducational academic honor society which accepts the top 10 percent of juniors, seniors, and graduate students at those colleges and universities that have a chapter. The society was established in 1922 in order to promote academic excellence and exemplary character among college and university students and to honor those who achieve such distinction.

The event is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public.  For more information about Alpha Chi, visit www.alphachihonor.org.  For more information about the Academic Showcase, contact jwykoff@leeuniversity.edu.
