Morning Pointe Launches Alzheimer's Center Of Excellence In Clinton

  • Wednesday, March 22, 2017

Local dignitaries, public officials, and community members, as well as residents and their families, celebrated a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the conversion of Morning Pointe of Clinton to an Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence. The campus will offer memory and related dementia care services, while Morning Pointe of Powell will continue to offer both assisted living and memory care.

More than 100 people attended the celebration at the new memory care community, 960 S. Charles G. Seivers Blvd. in Clinton. Anderson County Mayor Terry Frank was among a host of special guests who gave remarks to commemorate the transition.

Family member Steve Barlow, whose mother is a resident at The Lantern at Morning Pointe, shared heartfelt words about his positive experience.

“Morning Pointe has been great for us,” said Mr. Barlow. “Mother used Morning Pointe for respite care first, then later moved in full time. The staff, I can’t say enough about them.”

Local officials also shared their sentiments about their own loved ones residing at the memory care community.

“I couldn’t think of a time in the city of Clinton without Morning Pointe being here,” said Larry Gann, Clinton City Council member, whose mother was once a resident. “[It has] been a big part of my life and the city’s life.”

“This community is one of the most compassionate, caring, supportive, and volunteering communities I have ever been in and you should each feel fortunate for that,” said Connie Martin, vice-president and chief support officer of Methodist Medical Center. “I want to applaud Greg Vital, president of  Morning Pointe, and the team that had the vision of transitioning to the type of building that [they] are transitioning to as there is no end to the need in our community.”

“Our population is aging and there is a tremendous need for services like this,” said Harold Edwards, member of the Anderson County Chamber of Commerce board of directors. “We are extremely grateful to have Morning Pointe to serve the needs of our residents in Anderson County.”

Morning Pointe has served Anderson County for more than 15 years, and was named “Best of Anderson County” by The Clinton Courier News. After a half-million dollar renovation, the building offers a full spectrum of programs designed for seniors with various stages of memory conditions.

"The Clinton Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence features 51 specially designed, secured apartments with personalized programming that focuses on individual interests, life experiences, and strengths. Nine of the apartments are located in The Lantern – an intimate environment for individuals needing greater levels of assistance. Forty-two of the rooms are dedicated to The Lamplight program for residents in the early to moderate stages of cognitive decline," officials said.

Key features of the new memory care community include:

The Meaningful Day purposeful programming adds a personalized focus to improve quality of life;

SimpleC Companion Touch Screen Memory Care Technology to promote improved engagement;

Cuddle Therapy, specially crafted, lifelike dolls to bring a sense of calm and purpose to residents;

On-site physical, occupational and speech therapies;

Teepa Snow Activity Boxes;

Intergenerational and Music Matters programming;

Licensed clinical staff available 24 hours a day; and

Individual care plans coordinated by licensed nurses and area healthcare providers

"In light of Morning Pointe’s commitment to caregiver education and community service, the Morning Pointe center hosts a free Alzheimer’s support group the first Wednesday of every month, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.," officials said.

“Our goal is to continue providing personalized care options that support the unique day-to-day needs for seniors, caregivers, and families,” said Marcy Pennington, executive director at Morning Pointe. “We are proud to offer more innovative memory care programming in our goal to be the region’s choice for quality senior care.”

"Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Morning Pointe Senior Living is the region’s choice for assisted living and Alzheimer’s memory care with 27 locations across five southeastern states. The Chattanooga-based senior healthcare services company continues to expand, with three additional senior campuses scheduled to open in mid-2017," officials said.
