U.S. Navy Pilot Was Mechanical Engineer For NASA

Robert Lawrence Hamilton, 80, of Hixson, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2017.

He served his country as a pilot in the U.S. Navy. Robert was a mechanical engineer serving as the senior mechanical engineer with NASA over the Space Program, the senior air frame engineer over Space Shuttles and was the senior mechanical engineer over the Apollo Lunar Module Spacecraft. He also worked at Sequoyah Nuclear Plant where he was over Quality Assurance.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Vera Hamilton and a brother, Wallace Hamilton.

Survivors include his sons, Mark Hamilton (Dawn) of Soddy-Daisy and Martin Hamilton of San Francisco; daughter, Debbie Irick of Soddy-Daisy; sister-in-law, Mary Lee Hamilton; grandchildren, Zach Irick, Blake Irick and Caroline Hamilton; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 24, at 12:30 p.m. at the National Cemetery with Reverend Darrell Davenport officiating and military honor by the U.S. Navy.

Visitation is on Friday, from 10-11:30 a.m. at funeral home.
