Life Care Centers of America recently bestowed its annual physicians’ awards.

The awards were given during a Life Care ceremony held at the American Medical Directors Association Annual Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, on March 16.

Dr. Bruce Hodges, nursing home specialist at Garden Terrace at Overland Park, Ks., was the recipient of the fourth annual Heritage Award. The honor recognizes contributions to the advancement of the art of healing, career achievement and service as an example of dedication to patients.

Dr.

Hodges was praised for his active involvement at the facility, his knowledge of the dementia disease process and his compassionate way of working with patients and their families. He served as medical director at Garden Terrace for about 20 years prior to stepping into the full-time role. In his spare time, he makes trips to Africa to provide free vaccinations, and he has a collection of medical artifacts that he displays and plans to curate in a museum.

“Many times he can be seen at the facility on weekends, holidays and early and late hours to do his rounds,” said Debbie Biehl, executive director at Garden Terrace. “He is committed, loyal, dedicated, encouraging, a great listener, patient, thoughtful, spiritual and inspiring to everyone who is blessed to be around him each day.”

Dr. Kimberly Ebb, nursing home specialist at The Highlands in Fitchburg, Ma., was named Company-wide Physician of the Year.

Dr. Ebb has served patients at The Highlands for more than 15 years, first as medical director and since 2013 as a nursing home specialist. She is also the regional director for physicians in Life Care’s buildings in the area. She was honored for her leadership and organizational skills and especially for sharing her medical expertise with Life Care’s clinical leaders in the Northeast.

Life Care Centers of America also honored six division award winners:

• Dr. Chantri Trinh – medical director at The Westchester House in Chesterfield, Mo., for the Central Division

• Dr. Stephen D’Amico – nursing home specialist at Life Care Center of Hickory Woods in Antioch, Tn., for the Eastern Division

• Dr. Gagandeep Singh – nursing home specialist at Life Care Center of Aurora, Co., for the Mountain States Division

• Dr. Stan Flemming – nursing home specialist at Life Care Center of South Hill in Puyallup, Wa., for the Northwest Division

• Dr. John Potomski – medical director at Life Care Center of Melbourne, Fl., for the Southeast Division

• Dr. Vinay Prabhakaran – medical director at Life Care Center of Scottsdale, Az., for the Southwest Division

“Physicians play a pivotal role in the care of our residents,” said Beecher Hunter, Life Care president, “and we are proud to honor those who stand out in their commitment and their compassion to ensure the health and well-being of those entrusted to them.”
