Partnership for Families, Children and Adults is appreciative to be the recipient of a $3,000 donation from Morning Pointe Senior Living to continue the work of an elder food pantry.
The pantry is accessible to seniors and disabled individuals who are either working with Partnership FCA case managers or enrolled in the Homemakers program.
In the three years since the pantry opened, it has served more than 60 senior citizens who may not normally have access to food. All individuals served by the pantry either live in a food desert or are food insecure, meaning they live more than a mile away from a healthy food vendor or are unable to go to a grocery store regularly, if at all.
Until two years ago, the food pantry was primarily funded by a grant. However, once the grant ran out, virtually all funding was lost. Since then, help from the Chattanooga Area Food Bank and generous donations such as this one from Morning Pointe Senior Living keep the pantry’s doors open to serve seniors in the community.
“We are so appreciative and relieved to know we will be able to continue providing nutritious meals to our elderly clients” said Elder Services Director Christina St.Germaine. This program serves some of the most vulnerable members of our community. Ensuring they are properly fed and not living with food insecurity is paramount to our clients’ health, stabilization and overall success.”
Without this donation and continued donations in the future, Partnership FCA would not be able to keep the pantry open. Continued donations are critical to keeping the pantry open to serve and provide nutritious food to local senior citizens in need.
