A gift of God was bestowed on the Armstrong family of Tennessee the Alice Lorraine Armstrong, 96, was born on May 5, 1920. She departed this life February 13, 2017.

She was united in holy matrimony to Deacon William Petty and to this union six children were born.

At an early age, she gave her life to Christ and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost. She served in many capacities in the House of God Church, which is the Church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

She served in many capacities, secretary, Sunday school teacher, state missionary president, chairman deacon and personal cook to the late Bishop J.W. Jenkins. Many have tasted and enjoyed her excellent cooking and baking. She was the cafeteria manager of Hamilton County and Chattanooga public schools. After retiring from the school system she was a day care provider for many children. Many regarded her as a mother and grandmother known as “Pet-Pet”.

Preceding her in death were Rev. Lee and Elder Mabel White; her husband, Deacon William A. Petty; son, Thilbert Q. Petty; two grandsons, Nathaniel A. Jackson, and Clearance T. Smith.

She leaves to cherish warm and loving memories her daughters, Austine Petty-Jackson, CA, Bobbie J. Petty-Smith, Detroit, Sherry L. Petty-Crat; sons, William D. (Linda) Petty, Robert A. (Rita) Petty; all from Tennessee; 27 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren; special friends, Deaconess Retha J. Davis, Deaconess Ether Jackson; Special relatives, Phyllis Estes and family, the Manago and Plant family, the Griffin family her beloved pet, “Snickers”, and a multitude of friends and neighbors. 

The funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, Feb. 25, at Holy Temple Church of God in Christ.  Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

The body will lie in state after noon on Friday, Feb. 24, at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
