Smith, Norma Jean (Summerville)

Norma Jean Smith, 82, of Summerville, Ga., formerly of Macon, Ga., passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at her residence.  

Mrs. Smith was born on Aug. 25, 1934, in Frenchburg, Ky., the daughter of the late Lona and Annie Back Brown.  She was retired from Georgia Pacific, she was elected 1976, the First Female Union President of Georgia Pacific Corp. She loved gardening, planting flowers, riding her golf cart and playing the guitar. She was of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her husband, Franklin D. Smith; daughter, Deborah L. Smith, and grandson, Lucus A. Smith.

Survivors include her children, Marcus A. Smith, Macon, GA, Rebecca Sockabasin, Robyn M. Smith, Princeton, ME, Sue and Ron Rowland, Summerville, GA; grandchildren, Sam Sockabasin, Chad Sockabasin, Heidi Sockabasin, and Jessica Cilley; step-grandchildren, Chip Rowland, Angela Rowland, and Keith Rowland, six great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marjorie Rudder, of Fairview, TN; and companions, “Pretty Boy” and “Stormy”.

Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be at 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, at the Mason Funeral Home chapel with Ron Rowland and Reverend Tom Russell Officiating.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 3 p.m. until the hour of the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of Mrs. Smith.
