Jimmy Elliott was the race winner
Saturday afternoon a new era of racing began in Winchester, Tn., at the newly renamed Winchester Raceway Park with the 13th edition of the "Winterfest" event.
Under the direction of new owner Bob Harris, who purchased the speedway last fall, over 150 race teams converged on the small downtown 1/3 mile dirt track for racing action.
Jimmy Elliott of Cleveland, Tn., led the distance to win the Crate Late Model feature, parking his #J39 "Elliott's Tire Center, Stealth Racing Carburetor, CarSmart Auto Sales, Mighty Muffler & Brake Center, Bodies By Skinny, WP Shocks and MSR Mafia" sponsored Longhorn racecar in Victory Lane.
Jason Welshan of Maryville, Tn., denied polesitter and defending race champion John Ownbey of Cleveland, a $3,000 payday. The two racers made contact around the halfway point of the race resulting in Welshan inheriting the lead position, which he held for the remainder.
Racers will converge next weekend on Seymour, Tn., for a special event at 411 Motor Speedway.
