Bobcats' Skid Continues With Home Loss To Tennessee Wesleyan

Wednesday, December 6, 2017

The visiting JV team from Tennessee Wesleyan University jumped out to a seven-point halftime lead on Tuesday and picked up an 89-71 win over Georgia Northwestern, handing the Bobcats a sixth consecutive loss.

Several times in the first half, the Bobcats (2-8) would cut a double-digit deficit down to a two-possession game, but each time the Bulldogs (6-7) would answer to push out their lead.

Georgia Northwestern would get it down to two, 26-24, with seven minutes left in the first half, but eventually went to the locker room down 42-35.

The Bulldogs would start the second half with a 19-6 run and the Bobcats never found an answer. They would chip away the gap, getting it down to 77-64 with 6:30 remaining, but never got any closer.

Keyshun Bradley had a game-high 25 points for Tennessee Wesleyan, while Danny Bates hit for 23. Parker Morgan added 14 and Chris Fayne's 10 points gave the Bulldogs four players in double figures.

Tyler Phillips had 16 points and five rebounds for Georgia Northwestern. Deontae Jackson continued his strong recent play with 12 points and six boards, while Micah Wheeler went for 10 points. J.T. Langford and Davantae Kimble had eight points and three steals apiece.

The Bobcats will return to the Rossville Athletic Center on Friday to face Trinity Baptist College from Jacksonville, Florida in the opening round of the Tim Walthour Memorial Tournament. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. It will mark the first meeting of the season between the two teams.

Georgia Gwinnett College and Welch College will play in the first men's game of the day at 4 p.m. The men's consolation game will be at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, while the men's championship game is slated for 4:30 p.m.

Randy Smth: My Mistakes And Grant Williams

At the ripe old age of 66 years old, soon to be 67, I find myself making more mistakes than I used to make; many more. In a column I wrote last week about the Howard-Riverside rivalry, I referred to one of the key figures on the great Riverside squads as Sylvester Davenport. Davenport actually was a star at Soddy-Daisy in the early 1970s. The 6'-7" player to whom I was thinking ... (click for more)

Reflections On Billy Graham

Sandra and I are saddened this morning after learning of the death of Billy Graham. We rejoice today, because Mr. Graham once said "It will be reported that Billy Graham has died, but that won't be the truth. He said the truth is that he had only moved to a new location".  I remember when we named 15th Street as Billy Graham Avenue, his daughter Gigi came for the dedication ... (click for more)

Roy Exum: Me & Billy Graham

For several years in my life it seemed my bad arm and I spent more time at Mayo Clinic than we did in my own house. I hold the record for the most different infections in an elbow at the same time, and my medical charts never had my name on them, instead I was simply, “Mr. Complication.” One morning in particular I spent a horrible three hours in the “nerve conduction lab” with ...
