Police said 19-year-old Donovan Michael Upton is facing charges after using a stolen credit card to rent a motel room and for other purchases.

Upton, of 1430 Thrasher Pike, is charged with aggravated burglary, theft of property, fraudulent use of a credit card, possession of a controlled substance and possession of meth to sell or deliver.

Police were notified on Nov. 12 of a burglary at a residence on Wayne Avenue. The victim said someone entered her home the day before between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and stole her purse. It contained $1,000 cash and credit cards.

Also taken was an HP laptop computer valued at $500.

The resident said her credit card was used at Evolution Wireless, Shoe Dept. and Finish Line at Northgate Mall and also at the Country Inn and Suites on New Country Drive.

Police responded to the motel and the manager said the woman's credit card had been used to pay for a room with two occupants.

Police went to the room and Shana Sims came to the door. She said her boyfriend, Upton, had rented the room so they could party. She said she met him two days before.

Prior to going to the room, she said they went to Northgate Mall, where Upton used the stolen credit card to purchase shoes at the Shoe Dept. and Finish Line before buying a phone for himself at Evolution Wireless.

Upton was on video using the stolen credit card to rent the room, it was stated.

Six Things We Can Do About Mass Shootings - And Response

All politics aside, the recent shooting in Florida, and every other shooting in a public place, is a senseless and, possibly, preventable tragedy. It is absurd that we can’t gather in a free society without the fear of some nut job or terrorist using us as targets.   And then the cries of “do something!” from every quarter. But, other than the obvious attempt by agenda-pushers ... (click for more)
