Lois Ellis
Lois Evelyn Ellis, 100, of Cleveland, formerly of Eastman, Ga., passed away on December 10, 2017.
She graduated from Albany High School in Albany, GA and attended the University of Georgia in Athens. Upon graduation, she taught school for ten years in Eastman, GA. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa teacher’s society and a member of the D.A.R. chapter of the United Daughter’s of the Confederacy in Eastman, GA.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cleveland for 64 years where she served in the Thompson Sunday Scgool Class and Martha Hall Circle. The annual church BBQ was started by her deceased husband and named the Matt Ellis BBQ, which she supported and worked in until recent years.
She was a Gray Lady at Bradley Memorial Hospital for 10 years and served in various other clubs and committees.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Matt Ellis; parents, Charles and Corine Grimsley; brother, Loran Grimsley; and sister, Dees Lambert.
She is survived by Mary Grimsley of Ponde Verda, FL, Betty Grisard of Chattanooga; nieces, Jennine Grimsley, Carol Bently and Marilyn Heaton; caregiver, Betty Guthrie.
A graveside service was held at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, Dec. 13, with Reverend Tim Bracken of First United Methodist Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cleveland Humane Society and Hospice Care of Chattanooga.
