What a majority of the good citizens of Alabama taught the rest of our country last night is that if one waits long enough and suffers long enough being ridiculed, stepped on, abused, ignored, and hurt, the day of reckoning will come. How that happens has become akin to what today is known as the political process.
I am an experienced FDR Democrat but a staunch supporter of Senator Bob Corker. I lived under President Roosevelt's leadership during our worst days in modern history in this blessed land. Why that is important is those 11 years of leadership galvanized my understanding of what it means to have someone at the helm who loves and respects the people, this country, and the laws that make it the greatest of all time.
The heart, soul, and spirit of the people is the engine that drives this country and keeps it alive and well through the worst and the best of times. The good people of Alabama worked overtime last night to right the ship by exercising their rights to put the law to work for themselves. I was with them all the way until after midnight, sitting in front of the TV in a blanket with my hands folded and my head bowed asking God Almighty to bring about change to this land and rid us of the evil that has arisen from our most cherished institution and landmarks composing the seat, headquarters, and capitol of our government.
Thank you, Alabama, and all of you voters who showed the world what true Americans are made of. I am so proud of you. And yes, Jeff Sessions, you still are Sweet Home Alabama to me and I miss your famous southern lingo and wisdom in the Senate for so many years.
We have work to do, America, and we need to start now. Politics is not the answer. Honesty, truth, law and order, a moral compass and respect and belief in each other are the tools we need. They are free. And of all other citizens of the world, we Americans know what freedom is. Alabama showed it last night. This morning they know its value.
