Lawanna Carter told police she was shot on Oct. 23 after a man approached her with a gun during a drug deal and she tried to drive away.

Amear Richard, 22, of 2120 West Shepherd Road, has been arrested for attempted first-degree murder.

Police said they were notified of a person suffering from a gunshot wound being transported to Parkridge Hospital via a personal vehicle.

Ms. Carter was shot in the jaw.

She was not able to talk at first, but later she said she was called by an unknown number to meet at 715 East Ave. for a small amount of marijuana transaction.

She said as she arrived she was told by phone to park at the rear of the residence.

She said she saw the suspect walk up to her car on the passenger side. He then went around to the driver's side, where she was sitting.

She said she tried to leave after seeing the gun.

The man did not say anything, but shot her in the face at close range, she stated.

She said he was in his early 20s, a black male, medium to dark complexion, with a stocky build.

She said she was able to clearly see his face.

She later picked Richard out of a photo lineup.

Police said he is a validated member of the Rollin 20 Crips.
