Jumping To Conclusions

  • Tuesday, November 14, 2017

Regarding Roy Exum’s opinion feature on Roy Moore, the phrase “innocent until proven guilty” as it’s used in the Constitution, does not mean what Mr. Exum seems to think it does. Moore has not been even convicted of a crime, let alone been found guilty of one.

However, Mr. Exum claims that Roy Moore has done nothing wrong, with absolutely no actual evidence for that claim. At least the celebrities that Mr. Exum mentions are being dismissed from their contracts and receiving financial repercussions, as well they should. Yet when politicians are accused of the same, they get endorsed by conservatives or worse, elected president (and he even admitted to it when he thought he was speaking privately).

Mr. Exum refers to the story of a woman who was supposedly offered money to make a claim against Moore. That actually has been proven to be “fake news” but I guess Mr. Exum couldn’t be bothered to research that before including it. After all, it supports his point of view so it must be true.

I don’t know whether Roy Moore is innocent or guilty of what he’s been accused, but there is definitely something there (as there always seems to be in these cases) despite the accused’s denials. Jumping to the conclusion that this is nothing but a slur campaign seems awfully hasty.
