Singer/songwriter Ray LaMontagne brought his Just Passing Through tour to Chattanooga’s Tivoli Theatre Friday night.

This tour marks a departure from the recent past because it is his first acoustic tour in five years.
He spoke during the show about taking time off from an acoustic tour but remarked that it felt like it was time for it again.

Armed with just a guitar and at times a harmonic, LaMontagne delivered a calm, yet soulful performance, which is his signature style. John Stirratt of the band Wilco accompanied him on bass.

He performed songs from all six of his albums. Notable ones include “Jolene,” which he used to open his encore, “Beg, Steal or Borrow,” & “Shelter.”

LaMontagne occasionally told stories between songs, but always spoke in a quiet and calm whisper, sounding like much of his music.

LA-based singer/songwriter Ethan Gruska opened the show.
