Trump's Scary Twitter Outbursts - And Response (2)

I just read an article by Roy Exum concerning the back and forth "tweets" and interviews between our Senator Corker and the president. His article "Corkers Got the Guts" is exactly how I feel.

 

I gave up a long time ago with identifying myself as a Democrat or a Republican and decided as a Independent I could vote for whoever was the best for the job in any elected contest. But, now I must express my displeasure with Donald J. Trump, the most egotistical, narcissist man who has been elected to lead the greatest country on earth.

 

How can we as a well-educated, freedom-led country continue to applaud his derogatory and "scary" outbursts on Twitter to anyone in the world who disagrees with his behavior and attitudes. Has no one noticed that anything he says or does is in his opinion the greatest thing that has ever happened to America, the greatest speeches, the greatest presidential acts and the smartest man in his opinion to ever lead this great country. Who believes this man and now he is going back to his defensive attitude and making fun of Senator Corker's height as he did Senator Rubio and, of course, the leader of North Korea.

 

If you're not a tall person does that mean you are less intelligent? If you're a woman does that mean you have no understanding of current affairs? If you were an American POW in Vietnam does that mean your not important and your service was a waste?

 

Who are these people who voted for him and now continue to defend his silly childish remarks. Mr. Corker was right in going up against him. Senator Corker, as the chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, hears more secrets than we would ever want to know. I think he is correct in warning us of an upcoming catastrophically unknown event that could change our lives and cause many other countries' citizens their lives.

 

When you have to give me a geographical lesson in Puerto Rico - "It's an island, surrounded by water, big water, ocean water" are you considering me to be a Tennessee hick who doesn't know anything about the world around us? When you throw  "great towels, soft towels" to people in need while they cheered and begged for your attention, I am supposed to idolize you like a god? Wake up everyone, this a very scary, unhinged man who is going to bring nothing but heartbreak to the loyal people of this great country.

Trump's recent Twitter activity is absolutely no surprise to those of us who have been paying attention to him on that format for years. He hasn't "revealed" himself to be a petulant, childish, dimwitted narcissist in the last few days and weeks; this is the man he has been for decades. It was all out there plain as day for anyone to see, but was ignored in the name of sticking it to Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

And to say he's accomplished many things is laughable. The only example you provided, sending VP Pence to storm out of an NFL game in false outrage, was a political stunt that cost taxpayers over $70,000. Many things, indeed.

Unlike Mr. Duggan, I don't consider us to be a well-educated country, and I do not believe that "as a country," we applaud anything President Trump does.  The left hates all he does, the establishment right hates 90 percent of what he does (and 100 percent of the threat he is to their way of life), and a lot of people like me don't condone his petty, personal insults.  His grandiose praise for his own speeches, events, and intellect are all part of his schtick.  Not everyone loves it, and some may hate it...but I think pretty much everybody's noticed it.   

What seems to me to have gone (amazingly) unnoticed by our political class is that the American people are so fed up with them that we knowingly elected President Trump.  There is no doubt that he is a highly intelligent person and a shrewd business man...but he is also quite capable of being a buffoon at times and shooting from the hip and hitting his own foot....and we knew that...and we elected him anyway.  

If anyone is asking to be worshiped, it's not President Trump but the political establishment on both sides.  Senate Leader McConnell has been quoted as telling then President-Elect Trump to quit saying "drain the swamp" because it made Congress look bad.  Congress needs no help being made to look bad.  With a Real Clear Politics average approval rating of 13.7 percent, one would think they would listen to the American people, especially the great swath in the middle that elected President Trump.  Yet the Republican leadership couldn't pass their own "repeal and replace" Obamacare legislation in multiple attempts (in the Senate at least), President Trump had to cut a deal with the Democrats to avoid a debt ceiling crisis (a very reasonable thing to do, right?), and I fully expect them to blow significant tax overhaul legislation (which is supported by both parties).  The Dem leadership is in total obstructionist mode (other than making McConnell and Ryan look bad on the debt deal), and it is as ridiculous and self serving as it was when the Rs did the same to Obama.  For this country to prosper, the middle majority needs to come together to force both sides to grow up.  

And about those scary tweets...I cannot imagine a man who has built a $6 billion-$10 billion real estate company/brand all over the world and defeated 16 experienced Republican politicians for the GOP presidential nomination, could be so foolish as to deal with the threat of NK President Rocket-Man only via Twitter.  Have you ever heard of the good cop/bad cop strategy?  President Trump's rants are the bad cop's stick that the good cop team of Secretary of State Tillerson/South Korea diplomats are using as leverage to motivate the truly unhinged Rocket Man.

As for Senator Corker, the dustup with President Trump is certainly unfortunate.  Did anyone that knows him actually think he'd have the patience for a third term?  I remember some saying that he'd most likely be one and done.  I first met Bob the Builder when I was about 12 years old.  I remember he had on blue jeans and leather work boots and was in a hurry to get back to the job-site.  I applaud his private career and accomplishments and appreciate his local, state, and federal public service.  Hopefully, Senator Corker can rise above the current fray and diffuse the silly war of words with the President.  I know the guy we elected in his first term would've.  Hopefully he hasn't changed.
